Both the premise of this book and its delivery are interesting. Both Winston Churchill and George Orwell are presented as heroes of freedom, men who fought to preserve physical freedom as well as intellectual freedom. Although a somewhat tenuous premise, Ricks does a good job presenting both men's contribution. And though Churchill played the larger role in the defeat of Hitler and the Axis, Orwell's reckoning with the menace of authoritarian rule in Animal Farm and would define the stakes of the Cold War for its year course and continues to give inspiration to fighters for freedom to this day.
