"Because with joy, we overcome the terror. With love, strength, and hope, we prevail." ― Sarah Darer Littman, Life, After. I feel that Sarah Darer Littman did a good job of telling the story of a young immigrant, her struggles, her hopes and dreams and her successes in a positive and uplifting manner. My only complaint about this book is that it took very long to move from Life Before (Dani's life in Argentina) to Life, After. The exodus of the Jews is breaking Dani's heart: the exodus from Buenos Aires, that is. The Argentinian currency crisis has destroyed Buenos Aires's economy, and all of Dani's friends are moving to Israel or the United States. Dani's own family, devastated by poverty and her father's overwhelming depression, is headed to New York. There, in a wealthy suburb, Dani struggles to make friends.
